Call for Applications: Support for Early Career Investigators at the Office for Clinical Research- 2026
The Office of Clinical Research (OCR) at MGB will support four $5,000 early career investigators each year with in-kind support up to $5000 each to perform their pilot and feasibility studies or studies related to their early career awards at the MGH Translational and Clinical Research Centers (TCRC) or the BWH Center for Clinical Investigation (CCI).
Awardees will not be charged for nursing, nutrition, technician or blood processing time, or any fees for research conducted in either the TCRC or the CCI up to $5000. Coordinator support will not be available through this mechanism.
Awardees will be supported through protocol development, building of budgets, grant writing, filing of INDs/IDEs, and study implementation. They will receive guidance regarding participant recruitment and retention in the study, and other support as necessary for successful completion of the proposed project. Awardees will be encouraged to participate in Catalyst supported resources such as the C/T Academy and the GRASP program.
Eligibility criteria:
Instructors or Assistant Professors without current or past R or U level (or equivalent) funding (with the exception of R03 funding). Those with career development awards (e.g., NIH K-series) are encouraged to apply.
Candidates must not have previously received similar support from the OCR
Candidates must demonstrate that their grants are independent of their mentors’ existing or proposed grants
The application should include the following (Arial 11 font, single spaced, 0.5-inch margins)
Description of the protocol (no longer than 2 pages excluding references): Specific Aims, Significance, Innovation, Preliminary Data (if any), Research Strategy including Analytical Plan
List of required resources (nursing, nutrition, MRO, blood processing, labs through the Catalyst Quest contract)
Personal statement indicating why this support is being requested and future directions (1 page)
Letter of support from the Division Chief or Department Chair indicating that the candidate will have at least 50% protected time to conduct the proposed research (1 page)
Letter of support from the mentor including a mentoring plan and documentation that the proposed protocol does not significantly overlap with the mentor’s funded work (should not exceed 1 page)

Deadline for application submission: July 15, 2026
Decision finalized and applicants informed: September 1st, 2026
Protocol to be started no later than: January 1st, 2027
